English at the GvP

In the morning we had a two and a half hour drive from Brighton to Rye. When we arrived in Rye, we quickly took a look inside the church called St. Mary’s Church and some of the students went up the tower.  After the visit, we had some free time in the town. We used that time to go shopping and bought some gifts for our family. During that time Magdi also bought overpriced Belgium chocolate covered with strawberries and Klara and Elena saw a Porsche.      After that we drove for like 25 minutes to Tenterden. When we got out of the bus we got our lunch at the parkinglot. Moreover we got some free time as well. We used that time to do our interview and get ourselves iced chai latte.  After we had returned to the bus, it took us another half hour to Sissinghurst Castle Garden. Today was an exciting day. In the morning, we went from Beer to Brighton with our class. The journey was nice, and we were eager to visit the city. When we arrived, we went to the Royal Pavilion. Before we went inside, an old Austrian lady called Hannelore gave us some info about the history of this beautiful and unique building. We learned some interesting facts about it and explored the amazing rooms inside.    The kitchen was particularly interesting! After that, we walked around Brighton. We spent time in the narrow winding shopping streets called the Lanes, checked out different shops, and bought a few items. We also had something to eat and enjoyed the lively atmosphere of the city.  In the evening, our classes went to an Italian restaurant together and we ate something there. Today we left our hostel in Penzance with all our stuff. We got on the coach and went to Dartmoor. Dartmoor is a wild moorland and National Park in England. After a two hour drive we made a little break to go to the toilet. Then Felix told us something about the place, his presentation was really informative and interesting.   In our second break we took pictures of sheep and horses. At Postbridge we took a group picture on one of the famous Clapper Bridges and we got some pizzas from yesterday’s dinner. Then we got back on the coach and Hansi, the bus driver, took us to Exeter. It´s a historic city in southwest England, known for its impressive cathedral, Roman heritage and vibrant university atmosphere. We visited the famous cathedral where Ulli gave us much information about it, especially about how it was built and the history.     9. June 2026, by Ben and Junis   We got woken up by our teacher at 7:30 a.m. like usually. After quickly freshening up we went downstairs in order to eat breakfast. We grabbed our backpacks, left the hostel and went  down the hill to the bus. We drove about an hour to our first attraction, the Minack Theatre. An unbelievably beautiful place with an amazing view of the sea. We made a short walk around it ourselves and, after that, a short video gave us some information about the theatre. Sitting at the stone seats, above us the clouds, in the background the Atlantic, we watched the show by an old man, the former gardener Billie Rowlings, who helped Rowena Cade build the place. (He was played by actor).       Back on the bus we went to Saint Ives in order to go surfing.We slipped into the wetsuits, grabbed our boards and went to our instructors.  They taught us how to surf correctly and gave us some information about the dangers of the sea. Today we got up early and enjoyed a delicious breakfast together. After that, we got on the coach and drove to Lizard. From there, we started a wonderful hike along the South West Coast Path. We walked along the cliffs and enjoyed the breathtaking views of the sea and the beautiful landscape.      After some time, we arrived at Kynance   Cove. We took a short break at the Kynance Cove Café, where we tried the traditional English scones. Lena and I thought they were okay but it was a great experience to try them. Then we walked back the same way to Lizard. We had some time to look around the small shops and buy a few souvenirs. Afterwards, we got back on the coach and drove to Penzance. In Penzance, we had one and a half hours of free time. We explored the town, went shopping and enjoyed the lively atmosphere. Today we started our day early and got on the coach after breakfast. Our first destination was St Michael’s Mount , a small island off the coast of Cornwall in southwest England. When we arrived, we went by boat to the island. St Michael’s Mount is famous for its historic castle, beautiful gardens, and amazing views of the sea. The castle stands high on a hill and has a long history that goes back many centuries. We explored the castle and learned a lot about its past. From the top, we could see the coastline and the surrounding countryside, which looked very impressive.   After spending some time on the island, we returned to the coach and continued our journey to  Land´s End,  southwestern most point of England. The cliffs on the way to Sennen Cove are known for their spectacular scenery and dramatic views over the ocean. We went on a hike along the coastal paths and enjoyed the fresh sea air. Today we had to leave our hostel at half past eight after we had eaten a tasty breakfast. Then we spent 1 hour on the coach(bus) where we drove to our first city of the day, Wells. Wells is a small cathedral city in the county of Somerset , in the southwest of  England . It is famous for its historic architecture, medieval atmosphere, and impressive cathedral. In the rain, we walked to Wells Cathedral. We were allowed to go into the cathedral and Ulli gave us much information about the attraction through the audio guides. Wells Cathedral is a famous Gothic cathedral in Wells, England. It was built starting in 1175 and is over 850 years old . The church has a long central nave, a large tower in the middle, and beautiful stained-glass windows. It is known for its impressive architecture and historic medieval clock. Today, we had a very exciting day with our class. In the morning, we visited Stonehenge. We were impressed by the huge stones and learned that they are thousands of years old. It is very interesting that nobody knows exactly how people moved the stones there. After that, we went to Bath and visited the Roman Baths. We walked through the museum and saw many old Roman objects. We learned a lot about Roman life and how the baths were used. The museum was very big and had many different things to look at, and it was nice to see so many things from the past. The funniest thing was, when some of us tried some of the water and then a guide came up and gave us first aid info about the  Aquae Sulis  water with sulphite.        The Roman Bath and Bath Abbey - The Lantern of the West Later, we visited Bath Abbey. Today was an absolute whirlwind of an adventure! Our schedule was packed to the brim, and it felt like we crossed the entire city of London in record time. We managed to tick off an incredible number of world-famous sights in just a single day, following a massive route across town. Here is the exact, chronological diary of our high-speed journey: Shopping Districts, Hidden Neighborhoods & Chinatown We started our morning in the bustling heart of London's shopping district on Oxford Street, surrounded by massive stores and morning crowds. From there, we walked over to Hyde Park and navigated the beautiful, upscale streets of Mayfair and Marylebone, where we admired the classic London architecture—like the stunning brick row houses covered in green vines. Next, we strolled down luxury-lined Bond Street before heading deeper into the City of Westminster. Our journey started at 6:30 am on the ship. We got up and prepared for the day. We left the ship with our coach (bus) and then we drove about two to three hours to Oxford. Before we arrived in the city we made a little break at McDonald’s where we also got some breakfast and snacks from the teachers. We arrived in Oxford - it was raining.  But the weather got better after about an hour. We first looked at Christ Church College, a very picturesque university building, and Luisa held a presentation about the place.  We walked through the city and enjoyed some sights and after an hour of free time (where we grabbed a bite) we visited Christ Church College from the inside. We were spit into groups and got some information from an audio guide.  I (Ben) bought an retro England jersey and Felix bought a few souvenirs in order to surprise his family with a present.
