Our Ultimate London Marathon: From Oxford Street to Paddington Station

Today was an absolute whirlwind of an adventure! Our schedule was packed to the brim, and it felt like we crossed the entire city of London in record time. We managed to tick off an incredible number of world-famous sights in just a single day, following a massive route across town.

Here is the exact, chronological diary of our high-speed journey:

Shopping Districts, Hidden Neighborhoods & Chinatown

We started our morning in the bustling heart of London's shopping district on Oxford Street, surrounded by massive stores and morning crowds. From there, we walked over to Hyde Park and navigated the beautiful, upscale streets of Mayfair and Marylebone, where we admired the classic London architecture—like the stunning brick row houses covered in green vines.

Next, we strolled down luxury-lined Bond Street before heading deeper into the City of Westminster. Soon, the scenery changed completely as we walked under the stunning canopy of hundreds of red lanterns in Chinatown. Just a short walk away, we passed through the lively entertainment hub of Leicester Square.

Markets, Historic Churches & Crossing the Thames

From Leicester Square, we headed to Covent Garden. The atmosphere outside the market was vibrant, filled with energy and beautiful, colorful flower carts. Right nearby, we stopped to see the beautiful St. Paul’s Church. Nearby, we also stumbled upon the unique Agatha Christie Memorial, which looks like a giant bronze book.

Our route then took us down towards Charing Cross, where we caught transport across the River Thames to Waterloo. From Waterloo, we made our way east into Bermondsey and crossed back over to see the iconic Tower of London in the borough of Tower Hamlets. This was a special stop because Eliza gave us a really interesting presentation all about the Tower and its history!

The River Ferry, Royal Parks & Street Dancers

After the Tower, it was time for a classic London transport experience. We hopped onto a river ferry, which gave us the absolute best views of the city from the water. As the boat cruised down the Thames, we got a breathtaking look at both the giant London Eye and the majestic Big Ben!

We got off the ferry in Westminster and then made our way to the area where the 2012 Olympic Games were held to see some of the city's modern sports history. By this time, our feet were already aching, so we were incredibly grateful for a walk through the green lawns of St. James's Park, where we got to enjoy a bit of nature. The park led us straight to the gates of Buckingham Palace to see where the King lives.

Finally, we walked to Trafalgar Square, which was a huge highlight because we got to watch some amazing street dancers performing right in the middle of the square! Exhausted but happy, we finally headed back to our youth hostel by train.

Our Personal Review of the Day and what we absolutely loved:

The views and the scenery of the city were beyond amazing! London is incredibly photogenic, and it felt surreal to see all these iconic places in real life rather than just in movies or textbooks. Watching the dancers at Trafalgar Square and seeing Big Ben from the ferry were moments we won't forget. The downside of our trip:

If we are being completely honest, the day was also extremely exhausting and stressful. Because the schedule was so packed, we didn't walk—we basically sprinted from one landmark to the next. Unfortunately, this meant we had almost no free time to ourselves. We would have loved to sit down in a cozy café, browse through a souvenir shop, or just sit on a bench and properly enjoy the atmosphere without constantly checking the clock. Overall, it was an unforgettable day packed with incredible impressions. We saw more of London in twelve hours than some people see in a week! Our feet are definitely burning tonight!
